Presidents Message

Keith Mays

It is my pleasure to serve as your 2013 OMA President.  A special "Welcome" to all new Oregon mayors who are begining their leadership.  It is our hope that you will join your peers as an active member of OMA.  OMA has several events planned for this year. I look forward to seeing many of you at the LOC/OMA City Day at the Capitol, February 27th and at the OMA Summer Conference, July 25 - 29 in Corvallis. Be sure to check this web site often to keep up on the events.

Shirley Kalkhoven, Mayor, Nehalem

Welcome to the web site for the Oregon Mayors Association.

The OMA web site is intended to be a helpful resource to you in your leadership role as mayor of your city. Bookmark the site on your web browser and check back to it regularly as more info and features are added.

It is important for Mayors of Oregon to work together to help each other improve their community, improve Oregon. Currently more than 75% of all Mayors are members of the OMA, which is a great percentage, but it should be 100%.  Members, please encourage your neighboring Mayors to join OMA and get involved.

When Oregon Mayors work together, we are a strong force and are able to impact the legislators in Salem and our Governor.
Regionally, when Mayors work together, we are a strong force with our county commissioners, regional governments, and special districts.

Only other Mayors understand what it is like to be the Mayor of a city. Through the OMA, we are able to learn from each other, support each other, and learn from the mistakes/successes of other cities.  You never know it all, if you were just appointed or elected or if you have been Mayor for 20 years, there is more to learn and a need for you to share what you know with your peers.

Education and advocacy work happens throughout the year.  Including mayoral gatherings at City Day at the Capitol during the regular legislative session, the annual OMA summer conference, and the fall OMA workshop during the LOC conference (2013 will be in Portland). Mark your calendar and plan on being at all three.
